I was hired to capture and edit a recap video for the Consensus 2023 Conference in Austin, TX. The conference is a crypto event, which is an ever-evolving world full of technical advances, partnerships, and connections. The goal was to create a video for the event, but more specifically a recap of the happy hour after-party, to show off all the fun.
These events are always so unpredictable, so on-the-fly decision making while shooting was the way I had to go about what the video felt and looked like. I decided, of course, to get as much coverage as possible while keeping the edit in the back of my head. While shooting, I always thought about story. How do we get from one place, the event, to the other, the party. Where is the correlation and where is the meaning behind it? It was all about connections, and developing a community around collaboration in Web3. As someone who has no clue what Web3 is or how crypto works, I had to humanize the video as best as I could. This included capturing people at this event talking and getting to know one another, participating in the events, and having a good time. To connect the party with the event, I got to capture the conference itself to give context to what this event was about, those characterizing the locations to better connect with the story of the event. I captured brands talking to other brands, attendants at presentations, and all of the cool builds surrounding the convention.
What I came out with was a recap video that captures the energy of what these events are, fun parties and connections made. I'm proud of the edit I got to create as these conventions challenge my creativity in new ways!
