I was asked to go to Paris in 2022 to capture the ETHParis Hackathon 3-day event as well as the after party. The goal was to capture the event and the party, and tell the story of these Web3 developers during this event.
It's not everyday you get to go to Paris. When I flew out with my equipment and my lack of French, I knew I had to make this video the very best it could be. As it is with every job, I want every video I make to be the best it can be, and I doubled down on every aspect. The challenge, again, is to shoot with the edit in mind, which meant a lot of wipes and fast paced shots for the faster paced energy on the conference. The story here was a bit different from the other conferences.
The Hackathon aspect made the vibe of the environment very competitive, people racing to get their ideas out in code and discuss the benefit of what they were creating to the world. I wanted to capture the event in these waves of momentum. The rushes of anticipation and being in an iconic location like Paris to be able to work in. I knew that the fast paced energy had to be balanced by the meaning of the event: the connections. All of the work going into these projects are for the betterment of everyone, having a deep breath and being outside to experience humanity, then using this competitive nature to enhance that idea of why they do what they do. The ebs and flows of creativity and inspiration was what inspired me to structure the video in this way.
Character was big in this project as well. I used someone I knew at the event to be the catalyst for getting to locations and being a familiar face in an unfamiliar enviorment. It gave me a perspective to show from the Web3 developers that I couldn't have otherwise.
The editing is what is most impressive about this project to me. It's the combination of what I came up with on the day while shooting and following through with those ideas in the editing room to create that experience fully and as immersive as possible. This is the proudest I've felt so far about the outcome of a corporate video, and I'm so happy for the experience it gave me.
