Wayfinder Coffee is a local cafe in Northern Colorado Springs, CO. We had the pleasure to create two different ads for them to demonstrate their mission of being a gathering place for the wanderers, the drifters, and the travelers of the world. The Narrative Ad and the Barista Ad take two different looks about what Wayfinder is all about, and with the help of our actors Cody Klingelhoffer, Mason Camp, and Mecca Muhammed, we are proud of what we got to produce!
The Narrative Ad follows our "hippie cowboy" character as he finds his way into this community, is introduced by the services offered by the staff, and ultimately finds comfort in the people that make up what Wayfinder is.
The Barista Ad takes a different angle, showing the process of building what becomes a quality cup of coffee. By showing the step-by-step breakdown, we can see the work and care that goes into serving the community with dynamic shots of espresso pulling, milk steaming, and the iconic latte-art pour.
The goal was to tell Wayfinder's story in only the way we could. Thanks to the creative freedom we had, we took into our hands what Wayfinder meant to us and the community and built the story around our characters. Character is what allows stories to be connected to, and in this case we had Cody (the Hippie Cowboy) to follow into this new environment. We believe this is the best way to show what themes we want to portray as we immediately connect with a drifter who is in a new environment.
Through his eyes, we shot listed every important detail we knew we needed to be able to pull of a loner who joins this community. We made a quick list to organize every shot we needed, that we we went in and worked quickly and efficiently to get everything we needed. This included every character interaction, especially with our other subjects who invite Cody into their group. This schedule allowed more time to come up with creative shots on the fly.
Brainstorming as we shoot was very important to this process as well. We got to get behind the bar and get unpredictable shots we couldn't have written down. Being on a smaller setup gave us the space to get close-up slow-motion shots of espresso pulling and the milk steaming, getting close to the latte artistry. These quick shots built the majority of what became the Barista Ad.
Turnaround time for this project was two days. The client received two different videos with different stories to choose from. Each video came with a social media package, having reframed exports in different aspect ratios to fit the needs of different social media platforms. We also gave different options for audio, having a cut with full music and sound effects, just sound effects, or a silent export. This gives options for these platforms to use different music in the ever-evolving ways to promote content on social media. We loved working with Wayfinder Coffee and we're excited to work with them again!
